Mikah Meyer

Road Trip and National Parks expert Mikah Meyer has been named a “Social Media Warrior” by MTV, honored by Late Night with Seth Meyers, and featured by NPRThe GuardianUpworthy, and The Today Show among thousands of media outlets globally for his Travel beyond convention. Called a "professional road tripper" by REI, Mikah's 3-year, world record road trip to all 419 U.S. National Park Service sites made him the first to experience all parks in a single journey. The project garnered over $10 million in earned media coverage (Meltwater), bestowed Mikah superlatives ranging from a "Best #VanLife Instagram" (Uproxx) to a "Sexy Travel Guru" (GayCities), and saw him make history as the First Openly Gay Man Featured in an Outdoors Recreation Campaign (with REI). His work was additionally recognized by NBC during NYC's World Pride 2019 as one of their Stonewall #Pride50 "innovators and changemakers" alongside the likes of James Baldwin and Marsha P. Johnson. He's continued that passion in the 2020s with the creation of the Outside Safe Space Program, which provides allies a simple way of making The Great Outdoors more accessible. Since its launch in 2020 with a Run Across Minnesota, Mikah has raised awareness for the OSS through a Run Across Mississippi, Bike Across Oregon, and other "Across" projects. The symbol's creation has also led Mikah to consult major brands on the design and implementation of their Pride products, and keynote speaking for Kansas City Design Week about inclusive marketing. With an adventure ethos inspired by the loss of his road-trip-loving father to cancer at a young age, Mikah now uses travel to advocate for others and to take audiences on journeys that inspire them to live "beyond convention."

As an on-camera and live stage Travel Host, Mikah's expertise ranges from media partnerships with the US federal government’s news agency to over 200 speaking engagements from New York to New Zealand. Sought after for projects that focus on bringing cultures together, he is equally comfortable appearing from Iran to Japan, penning the first LGBT-focused op-ed for Outside Magazine, or creating multimedia campaigns like his “Rainbow Nation” series of LGBT flag photos with America’s most iconic natural landmarks (Instagram, 65k followers). Combining these skills, Mikah is an inspirational speaker and comedic performer: encouraging others to follow their dreams before it's too late, be comfortable with their unique traits, and use those diverse skills to change the world. (represented by The College Agency - More on the SPEAKING/SINGING page).

Also an accomplished singer, Mikah has sung professionally with the Washington National Cathedral choirs, the Memphis Symphony and various international ensembles, and has created shows ranging from full-length improvised musicals to educational cabarets. He has a Masters in Voice Performance from Canada's McGill University, and is currently the Artist-In-Residence at Minnesota's largest Methodist church, Hennepin Ave, which hosted the kick-off event for Mikah's newest creation, Twin Cities' Pride OUT Venture

Following academic studies that named him a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholar, Mikah has continued that unifying ethos by devoting his life to helping people find common ground, whether in his hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska or on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial completing world records.

How it all started

In 2005, days after his father's funeral, 19-year-old Mikah embarked on his first independent road trip. What was initially planned as a post-freshman year getaway quickly became a transformative experience that showed Mikah the healing power of road trips. Since then, he has taken one road trip a year to honor this experience, including his 260 day, 16,400 mile "Dream Road Trip" around 46 North American states/provinces at age 25, and his noted journey to all 400+ NPS sites at age 30.

Mikah's writings on these travels have been featured by outlets including the National Parks Conservation Association, Outside Magazine, and a piece via Huffington Post and RoadTrippers that garnered over 40,000 shares and inspired the title track for singer/songwriter Shelly Waters' album DRIVE.

With April 29, 2016, marking the 11th anniversary of his father's passing from cancer, Mikah honored his dad's love of driving by making life out of death and launching his journey to experience all 400+ units of the U.S. National Park System from the Washington Monument. The project reached its Finale on April 29, 2019 at the steps of The Lincoln Memorial after traveling nearly 200,000 miles to every U.S. state and territory.

Mikah's focus continues to be "travel beyond convention," and using his expertise to engender others' dreams. Future projects include a TV show, memoir, photo guidebook and ranking of all 419 NPS sites, and more travel that showcases the imagination of the human spirit.
